Helping Alicia Keys Find A Super Match

Yesterday, I had the privilege of being part of the selection committee for the new head blogger for Alicia Keys’ new site, “I Am A Superwoman.” The site’s aim is simple yet audacious – creating a destination to inspire women every day.  And while I’m not a woman, I have been inspired.

Monster partnered with Alicia’s AK Worldwide team to unleash our new 6Sense semantic search technology to find the right candidates for this new job.  We combed the 8,500 applicants as well as Monster’s enormous database of talent to present the most qualified people for the job.  Using 6Sense technology in the form of our Power Resume Search, we narrowed the search to 70 who scored the best.  Those 70 then had a few weeks to strut their stuff, creating profiles, blogging, filming video posts and acting as catalysts for engagement on the site.  Our committee met in New York last week to narrow the field from 70 to ten, each of whom flew to New York to interview for the job.

This slate of 10 finalists was also presented to our social media leadership panel, along with their writing samples and social media profiles.  This panel represents some of the most recognized and influential thought leaders and influencers in the Social Media space: Sarah Evans, Jason Falls, Beth Kanter, Guy Kawasaki, Dan Schawbel, Brian Solis, Erin Vest and Tamar Weinberg.   Even this panel of social media heavy weights was wowed by the candidates’ work.

Yesterday, we interviewed the semi-finalists.  They came from all over the country, their backgrounds as varied as America itself: Armenian, Indian, Jamaican, Filipino, Puerto Rican, Vietnamese, each candidate more inspiring than the last.  They shared stories of struggle, and journeys of accomplishment against formidable odds.  Though totally different, the semi-finalists possess many similarities.  All were driven by innate intelligence, a strong foundation of beliefs and an unbreakable will to succeed through the power of the pen, albeit in keyboard form.  It was a melting pot of ‘super-ness.’

For those of us at Monster, this was a particularly gratifying experience, not only for opportunity to partner with the talent and fanatical following of Alicia Keys, but also because the program has reaffirmed how well Monster works.

We drove 8.500 applicants to submit resumes through the Monster site, which was great.  But more importantly, we utilized our newly launched 6Sense technology to rate, score and rank the best candidates.  And despite 8,500 new applicants to the job posting, 60% of the 70 highly qualified candidates were sourced directly from the Monster talent database.

Three finalists will be flown to London next week to meet with Alicia on tour for the final interview.  While only one will get the job, all ten women had the experience of a lifetime.  Talk about a win-win: Alicia Keys gets a head blogger.  Monster received further affirmation that our 6Sense offers employers an unrivaled way to match talent to opportunity.  And I got a heavy dose of hope and inspiration, a reminder that at Monster, we really do inspire people to improve their lives through the world of work.
