Breaking News: #SHRM10 Keynote Adds “Surprise Speaker”

Following the opening session at the 2010 SHRM Annual Conference, it’s a tradition for the thousands of attendees to immediately hit the Exhibit Hall floor to grab cool swag, meet with vendors and partake in some free opening night festive adult beverages.
As part of the Monster.com Social Media Street team, I wanted to the hit floor and find some interesting people to interview, so I grabbed the lovely and talented Laurie Ruettimann of Punk Rock HR to assist me in front of the camera.
Clearly, we’ve missed our calling, folks. Only a few minutes into our new careers as intrepid reporters, we snagged a big fish! As dutiful SHRM members, we proceeded to the official SHRM booth and standing there amongst a crowd of people was none other than Robb Van Cleave, Chairman of the SHRM Board of Directors.
Of course Robb was extremely honored to be approached by two “famous” bloggers (actually, he had no clue who we were – travesty) and he was gracious enough to spend a few minutes with us answering a few questions.
Channeling her inner Barbara Walters, Laurie decided to ditch her initial question of “If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be” and went straight for the tough journalism questions that she would have learned if she had gone to journalism school. After asking Robb to share some thoughts about the speaker lineup at the conference, she was able to pull out of him that there will be a “surprise speaker” on tomorrow’s opening session agenda who is a “very well known person from an extremely well known political family.”
You heard it first folks!
McClure and Ruettimann break some news amongst all of the chaos and mass of humanity on the Expo Hall floor.
The question now: “Who do you think the ‘surprise speaker’ is?” Inquiring minds want to know…
