Monster 5 for Friday (Works Edition) – Volume 23

While the jury’s still out on the value of video in talent acquisition and management, the news this week demonstrated the medium’s potential power to help with the job search…or else create the need for one.

Captain Owen Honors’ now infamous attempt at boosting morale proved that loose lips not only sink ships, but also careers, as his video moment resulted in the discharge of this career officer.  On the other hand, the “homeless man with the golden voice,” Ted Williams, showed that video’s not always a liability, transforming his on-camera turn into job offers from the Cleveland Cavaliers, MSNBC and NFL Films, among others.

Ted Williams and Captain Honors?  As they say in Hollywood, “It takes a name to make a star.”
