Inside HR: Katina Lane, on Employee Engagement

avatar Posted by

Cultivating engaged employees and keeping the that way is a major challenge for human resources professionals today, says HR manager Katina Lane.

“Often times in the world of human resources, we feel that compensation is a good strategy to retain employees, that benefits will retain employees,” Lane told Monster at the Society for Human Resource Management’s 2012 conference in Atlanta. “But I think we have dropped the ball in regards to the level of engagement, that sense of belonging.”

Employees are looking for more than competitive compensation and a generous benefits package. They also “want to feel like they’re contributing — that they’re really a part of the team,” Lane explained.

“Compensation is good, benefits are great, but to actually feel like you belong and that you are a partner and that you are a part of the team is an area of opportunity for us,” she said.

Love the thoughts.Appreciate what Katina had to say. She is right. There has to be more than simply a paycheck and benefits though important. There has to be a team, employyes need to know thay matter. The frontline manager is key in this.
