
It would be tempting to segue from Harry Potter right to the next summer blockbuster – Captain America – and the title character’s relentless struggle to find truth, justice, and….well, whatever it was that Captain America was searching for. Perhaps many recruiters feel similar to the ol’ Captain, that candidates who match specific and in-demand skill sets are about as elusive as the classic movie villain. As the doors to the expo hall opened and the estimated 11,000 HR practitioners in attendance poured into the main hall at the San Diego Convention Center to listen to the opening keynote address from publishing magnate and flat tax champion Steve Forbes, SHRM staff and volunteers had a surprise in store: the world’s (likely) first HR flash mob! Kicking off the conference with the Black Eyed Peas’ hit, “I’ve Got a Feeling” left no doubt that #SHRM10′s going to be a good, good event.
