The Veterans Talent Index: Tracking the Veteran Talent Gap

Connecting people with job opportunities is our mission at Monster. A big part of that mission is connecting employers with pools of largely untapped talent – like the slew of transitioning veteran talent making their way into our workforce today. One way (among many) we’re helping employers that want to tap into veteran talent is through a new data-driven tool we just unveiled this morning. The Veterans Talent Index is the first of an ongoing series of reports that will highlight both the requirements of today’s employers and the needs of transitioning service members, illuminating the gap that is responsible for the high unemployment rate rampant in today’s veteran population.

Trends and Differences in European Recruitment

My work across Europe gives me a chance to compare and contrast the strength of different economies and associated job markets. Across Europe, there are mixed feelings as figures show that there are increased job opportunities and employment but still high levels of unemployment in certain regions and age brackets and in particular increases in public sector and not-for-profit job losses.

Monster Employment Index: 5 Job Market Trends Worth Watching

Today’s Monster Employment Index (MEI) once again underscores that the recovery is headed in the right direction. I’m particularly pleased that the 13% year over year increase in December marks an 11 month trend of significant annual growth. Many anxious observers, however, would like to see a more rapid acceleration in the recovery. The 8 million jobs lost during the recession won’t be replaced overnight and any expectation that they would is idealistic. Instead, I think we should welcome smart and sustainable recovery in the market.

Picturing The Jobs Recovery: Monster Employment Index September 2010

Our Monster Employment Index for September shows we’re gaining ground with the 8th consecutive month of year over year growth. March 2010 Monster Employment Index: Beyond the Numbers

There are positive signs in the job market reflected in March’s Monster Employment Index (MEI). We saw a 6% year-over-year (YoY) increase in online recruiting demand in March, the second positive YoY increase in a row. This is a 1% jump from February, which marked the first positive year-over-year increase in 24 months.

Industry Breakdown

The upward trend was broad based across sectors, with growth in industries across the board. There were, however, a few worth mentioning. The real estate, rental, and leasing sector registered one of the steepest growths YoY, but this move upward signifies mostly an improvement from such a deep bottom, with the likely driver being non-real estate rental and leasing activity. Many equipment rental and leasing companies are seeing growth as both corporations and people are renting and leasing equipment, for example, moving trucks to help relocate.
