Monster 5 for Friday: Futurama Edition

While we might not know exactly what tomorrow may bring, we do know that the future, and its uncertainties, are always only a day away. As the pioneering programmer Alan Kay once stipulated, “the only way to predict the future is to invent it,” and while we might not be able to control the future, we can (to the best of our ability, anyway) plan for it.

Monster 5 for Friday: Veterans Day Edition

In the push and pull and cacophony and confusion of our constantly connected world, we forget that the simplest gestures can translate to a world of difference. Whether it’s a pat on the back or a word of encouragement, there are myriad ways to express gratitude and dam the river of stress, smartphones and social media we all swim in, if only for a moment. That’s why, on this Veteran’s Day, we wanted to stop and salute those who serve with two simple words: thank you.

Monster 5 for Friday – Skill Set Edition

Is it more beautiful to watch a random act of kindness, or a [...]

Mario Batali: The 3 Ingredients for Cooking Up A Great Candidate Experience

I’m proud to work for an organization that not only talks about candidate experience, but is actively working to improve it. Here’s the dish on how Monster served Mario Batali’s hiring needs while turning up the heat on the candidate experience, and what recruiters and employers can learn from this highly visible, highly successful search.

Every Day Is Labor Day

Here in the U.S., Labor Day means many things: a celebration of the American worker, the end of summer vacations, kids heading back to school, and a renewed focus on the jobs we have – and the jobs too many of us don’t have. In today’s edition of the Wall Street Journal, you’ll see a full page ad from Monster reminding us all that for the millions of people looking for work, and the countless employers looking to hire, Labor Day doesn’t happen once a year.

Monster 5 for Friday – Labor Day Edition

Without laboring over a definition, labor can be back-breaking, invigorating, tedious or inspiring. Labor can be a mere chore, or something borne out of passion. Labor can be a spouse cursing their partner for the better part of a day (or two). And as it replies to the hiring process and matching candidates with opportunities in which they, and the organization, will flourish, it takes arduous months of, well, hard labor on the part of HR and recruiting professionals.

Updated: Monster Speaks Out Against Employment Discrimination

It’s hard enough to be unemployed without the added obstacle of discrimination based on, ironically, being unemployed. Companies that exclude the unemployed from hiring consideration are missing important realities about talent and how to find the best matches for their organizations. Monster addressed this issue some months ago, but we think it is worth raising again in light of the recent increase in media and advocacy group attention on the issue.
