In my last post, we took a look at the whys of workplace flexibility and its increasing value to American workers; according to the National Study of the Changing Workforce, 87% of employees report having workplace flexibility would be extremely or very important if they were looking for a new job. In response to this growing demand for flexibility, 66% of employers in the National Study of Employers report they now see workplace flexibility as a strategic business tool that can benefit both employers and employees.

SHRM 2011 is almost here and, in preparation for the occasion, the halls at Monster are abuzz with activity and last minute preparations before we head to Las Vegas. In advance of that, we wanted to share with you a brief look at what we’re doing at SHRM this year. Most of all, we’re really looking forward to connecting and engaging with customers and thought leaders to discuss the latest trends and hot button issues for HR professionals across the country. As part of the Monster.com Social Media Street team, I wanted to the hit floor and find some interesting people to interview, so I grabbed the lovely and talented Laurie Ruettimann of Punk Rock HR to assist me in front of the camera.
As dutiful SHRM members, we proceeded to the official SHRM booth and standing there amongst a crowd of people was none other than Robb Van Cleave, Chairman of the SHRM Board of Directors.
After asking Robb to share some thoughts about the speaker lineup at the conference, she was able to pull out of him that there will be a “surprise speaker” on tomorrow’s opening session agenda who is a “very well known person from an extremely well known political family.”

Monster’s social media team hit the road this week, traveling to San Diego to cover the SHRM 2010 Conference on a growing range of social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, and this blog, for example). This year, we’ve added two HR practitioners/bloggers to our in house team to help us deliver more in-depth coverage and help us share the story of #SHRM10. Together, the #monsterlive social media street team will be weighing in with each day’s most interesting news and views.

Many of us are about to make the annual pilgrimage to SHRM’s main conference.
